EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A judge in Eugene appears unlikely to grant a newspaper’s request to unseal a search warrant affidavit containing details of the aggravated murder case against the mother and stepfather of a teenage girl.

The Oregonian is seeking the document in the alleged maiming and torture death of 15-year-old Jeanette Marie Maples.

The mother of the teenager, 41-year-old Angela Darlene McAnulty, and her husband, 42-year-old Richard McAnulty, both could face the death penalty if convicted.

Prosecutors told Lane County Presiding Judge Mary Ann Bearden that releasing the search warrant affidavit could damage the investigation and make it tougher to seat an impartial jury.

Bearden said Friday she was unlikely to unseal the document.
