Prairie High switches to new, safer driveway

BRUSH PRAIRIE — With the completion of a north driveway, reached from Northeast 119th Street opposite the new WinCo Foods grocery store, officials have closed access to Prairie High School from 117th Avenue northbound (state Highway 503).

Since Monday, the east gates of Prairie’s main parking lot have been closed during school hours, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays.

A permanent median is to be built this month, blocking all access from northbound 117th Avenue.

Gates will continue to allow entry from southbound 117th Avenue only outside of school hours.

A traffic signal and left-turn lanes at the 119th Street entrance should provide safer access. The intersection and driveway were funded by WinCo and Battle Ground Public Schools, with the help of federal stimulus-backed bonds.
