EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A proposal to combat property crime in Eugene has been shelved.
The plan would have increased the $10 annual fee on rental units, allowing the city to hire a property crime prevention specialist to focus on limiting burglaries, car break-ins and vehicle thefts at rental properties.
Police Chief Pete Kerns says the citys “hot spots” for thefts have been at the large apartment complexes.
Landlords, however, strongly opposed having to pay for the plan and tenants were concerned the cost would be passed on to them.
