Fruit Valley home destroyed by fire

— Fire investigators are combing through the rubble of a destroyed home, still searching for the cause of the blaze at 3605 Thompson Ave., in Vancouver’s Fruit Valley area.

Two men escaped the Thursday evening fire unharmed. A cat thought to be lost inside eventually emerged from the home with singed fur and was expected to survive.

Neighbors came to see the fire, and many helped and offered to help the family. The first neighbor to arrive found clothes for Tysen Timmins, a 24-year-old who was in the shower when his dad, Ed Timmins, told him the house was on fire.

The blaze caused $100,000 damage to the home, and $80,000 damage to its contents, which included taxidermy trophies.

“Looks like the family is going to be staying with some local relatives,” said Capt. Kevin Murray with the Vancouver Fire Department.

It is expected to take investigators a couple days to determine what caused the fire, Murray said.
