PHOENIX (AP) — Yovani Gallardo pitched five shutout innings and provided all the offense Milwaukee needed with a solo home run, leading the Brewers to a 1-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday.

Gallardo allowed four hits with two walks and struck out three. After allowing two base runners in the first inning, he had two 1-2-3 innings and allowed only two runners to reach second base.

Gallardo hasn’t been named the Opening Day starter by manager Ken Macha but appears to be in line for the job with two more starts scheduled in spring training.

Kyle Davies had his best outing of the spring while trying to secure a spot in the Royals’ rotation. He faced the Brewers regulars for the most part and allowed three hits with no walks and six strikeouts in four innings.
