ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Ashland Food Cooperative checker has been charged with theft and accused of stealing more than $12,000 since last January.

Police charged 31-year-old Corina Silva with aggravated theft last week. She was cited and released.

An investigation showed that cash was taken from store registers while coupons were being scanned. Amounts varied from $20 to $600.

A co-op manager said that Silva, who worked at the co-op for more than two years, is no longer employed at the store.

The store discovered the thefts last week. The Ashland co-op is owned by nearly 6,000 people, many of them local residents.
