A Vancouver man was arrested Saturday afternoon by Oregon State Police for allegedly driving under the influence and attempting to elude state troopers on Interstate 5 near Salem.

A press release said Faissal Fehaq al Meliky, 26, was taken into custody in an incident that began with a 4:40 p.m. report of a possible intoxicated driver southbound on Interstate 5 near Salem, according to OSP Sergeant Bob Charpentier.

An Oregon State Police trooper spotted the Chevrolet Blazer southbound near milepost 262 south of Brooks and attempted to stop it. The driver continued without stopping, weaving in all three lanes for four miles before stopping, the press release said.

The driver was held on suspicion of felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and reckless driving. He was also cited to appear possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. He was lodged in Marion County Jail.
