The beginning of spring, inside on the calendar, was Saturday and the weather outside was also springlike, with high temperatures at 70 degrees for the first time this year in many locations.
I recorded a high of 71 degrees at my Salmon Creek home and other 70-degree readings were noted at Kelso, Chehalis, Olympia and Puyallup, to mention a few. What a fitting way to welcome spring! High clouds were on the increase in the afternoon ahead of a weak weather system that will cool things off a bit today and Monday. After that, spring’s typical roller-coaster ride will bring another short warm and sunny spell midweek.
Checking the weather statistics for Vancouver on Saturday afternoon, I see we are running 1.8 inches below normal on rainfall, with a total of 1.45 inches for the month. Despite showers in the forecast today and possibly later in the week, no real frog-stranglers are heading our way, so we should continue to fall behind in that department.
Temperature-wise, Vancouver’s mean temperature is running about 2.5 degrees above average. It’s interesting to note that the month’s extreme temperatures so far were just two days apart — 27 degrees on March 18 and 70 degrees on March 20.
