ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Tuscan Evening led all the way and beat Cat by the Tale by 114 lengths to win the $150,000 Santa Ana Handicap on Sunday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, who won all three of Santa Anita’s weekend stakes, Tuscan Evening went straight to the lead in the field of eight fillies and mares. Cat by the Tale gave chase in second for the entire race, but couldn’t catch the Irish-bred 5-year-old favorite, who covered 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:48.03.

Tuscan Evening carried 123 pounds, six more than Cat by the Tale, and paid $4, $2.60 and $2.20. Cat by the Tale paid $3.40 and $2.40. General Consensus paid $3.20 to show.

Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer for owner William Deburgh, Tuscan Evening earned $90,000.
