ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Tiger Woods says a bracelet he is wearing on his left wrist is a Buddhist symbol for “protection and strength” — and that he will wear it at the Masters and beyond.

Woods told the Golf Channel on Sunday he’s been wearing the bracelet since before he went into treatment following his admission of repeated infidelity. The bracelet looks like a pale pink string, wrapped twice around his wrist.

Experts say wearing bracelets, necklaces or other reminders of their faith is fairly common for practitioners of Buddhism.

Buddhist scholars call it a “protection cord” that was likely blessed by a Buddhist monk or lama. Sometimes Buddhists receive one if they have made a donation to a monastery, or if they have participated in a ceremony.
