Northbound motorists will be funneled into one lane on the Interstate 5 Bridge Saturday night through early Sunday morning.

Workers will straighten iron beams damaged from previous accidents on the bridge. They will close the right and center northbound lanes beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday.

“It’s maintenance that’s been planned for some time,” said Brad Wurfel, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation, which maintains the crossing over the Columbia River.

The right-hand lane, the on-ramp to I-5 northbound at Jantzen Beach and the Marine Drive auxiliary lane will close at 10 p.m. Vancouver-bound motorists who find themselves on Hayden Island after 10 p.m. will have to loop south to Interstate Avenue and enter I-5 northbound at that location. The center lane of the bridge will close at 11 p.m.

The freeway will be reopened completely by 6 a.m., according to the DOT.
