KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A.J. Hawkins scored 21 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 31 seconds left, and Oklahoma Baptist rallied past Azusa Pacific 84-83 Tuesday night in the championship game of the NAIA national tournament.

Azusa Pacific’s Dominique Marshall hit a contested jumper that appeared to leave his hands after the buzzer sounded. Both teams stood tensely while officials reviewed the shot, then Oklahoma Baptist erupted in celebration as the shot was waved off.

Dominique Johnson had 24 points for Azusa Pacific, which was trying to become the first 13 seed to win the small-college championship since 1961. Reggie Owens had 17 for the Cougars.

Kevin Swinton had 19 for Oklahoma Baptist and Nate Brumfield had 15.
