BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union’s top economic official says there are “concerns over financial stability” in Europe’s currency union and EU leaders should decide now on a bailout plan to stem Greek’s debt crisis.

EU Economy Commissioner Olli Rehn says there is a sense of urgency to set up a program of financial rescue for Greece ahead of an EU leaders’ summit on Thursday.

The 16 nations that use the euro pledged last month to help Greece if the stability of the currency union were threatened. Germany has balked at deciding on firmer bailout details, raising speculation Greece may turn instead to the International Monetary Fund.
