BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Michelle Kwan will be the commencement speaker and receive an honorary degree from Southern Vermont College.

The nine-time U.S. champion and winner of two Olympic medals will be given an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree on May 8, when she addresses the graduating class.

Kwan is attending graduate school for international affairs at Tufts University and has served as a diplomatic envoy for the U.S. government. The five-time world champion says she looks forward to “sharing some of my life experiences with them and congratulating them for their own academic accomplishments and success.”

Kwan won an American record 43 figure skating titles, plus silver at the 1998 Olympics and bronze in 2002.
