Two cars collided late Wednesday after a driver in a van lost control and struck the bridge railing on the side of the highway and bounded toward the middle lane, while the other car struck the left rail in an attempt to avoid a crash only to return and slam into the van.

The Washington State Patrol is investigating the collision on Interstate 205, near milepost 34. It was reported at about 9:30 p.m.

Sausau Salanoa of Vancouver suffered a sore right knee and left thumb. The 40-year-old declined treatment at the scene. She initiated the collision when she reportedly lost control of her Ford van, hit the railing and careened out of control towards the middle of the highway, according to a state patrol press release.

Michael Beltran of Vancouver was transported to Legacy Salman Creek Hospital. He suffered a bruised arm and a sore neck.

Both drivers wore seatbelts and alcohol was not believed to have been a factor.

Salanoa’s van and Beltran’s Volkswagen Jetta were totaled.
