Police: Secure doors and windows, even in warm weather

To avoid signaling an easy target to would-be burglars, the Vancouver Police Department says residents should keep their doors and windows secure at night and when they’re at work.

“As the weather gets warmer, people still need to be considerate of their residential safety,” said Kim Kapp, a Vancouver police spokeswoman.

Often, Kapp said, residents leave doors and windows open to improve airflow and keep their home cool.

“We tend to have residential burglaries occurring more in warm weather because of those types of practices,” she said, calling it “not a good safety practice.”
