ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — Ashland police no longer suspect a woman was sexually assaulted after leaving a New Year’s party in the hills above downtown.

A man called 9-1-1 on New Year’s Day to report finding an unconscious, partially naked woman near the railroad tracks that run through the city.

The woman was treated at Rogue Valley Medical Center for extreme hypothermia, a condition which can lead victims to remove their clothes.

Police Chief Terry Holderness says crime lab results returned to police last week show no evidence of sexual assault. Detectives believe the woman became hypothermic and disoriented while walking home, causing her to eventually pass out.

The woman remembers little from the time she left the party to the time she awoke in the hospital.

Partygoers told police she had been drinking but did not seem highly intoxicated.
