Hollywood Video expected to close all U.S. stores
Monday, May 3, 2010
Hollywood Video owner Movie Gallery Inc. is expected to close its remaining U.S. stores, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The store closures, anticipated in the next couple of months, will likely include Clark County’s last four locations: 7604 N.E. Fifth Ave. in Hazel Dell; 6713 N.E. 63rd Ave. in Vancouver; and 2312 W. Main St. in Battle Ground; and 3307 Evergreen Blvd. in Washougal.
Wilsonville, Ore.-based Movie Gallery filed for bankruptcy protection in February and announced plans to close more than half of its 2,415 U.S. stores, which included seven Vancouver outlets.
Hollywood Video, the second-largest movie-rental chain by outlets behind Blockbuster, has struggled with increased competition from Redbox, Netflix and cable TV.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story had incorrect information about the number of local stores that have already closed. Two store addresses also were incorrect.
