Vancouver firefighters late Tuesday afternoon were dousing an abandoned house that was in flames at Northeast 94th Avenue and 105th Street, east of Interstate 205 and north of Padden Parkway.

The Vancouver Fire Department was called shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday and arrived to find flames burning in the upstairs area and attic, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian.

Before the first crews arrived, an off-duty firefighter who happened to drive by had gone inside an open door and determined no one inside. As firefighters worked, a neighbor reported seeing a group of children running from the house.

Firefighters were told that the abandoned house had been used by drug users, officials said.

The windows of the house had been boarded up, graffiti was painted on it and no electricity was on, said Fire Capt. Kevin Murray.

Firefighters were streaming water into the burning house from outside for safety reasons.
