NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a Staten Island Ferry boat struck a pier at the dock on New York’s Staten Island, and some passengers were injured.

Police and Fire Department officials say dozens of people may have been hurt, but most of the injuries appeared to be minor. They were unsure how severe the accident was or how much damage was done to the ferry when it hit about 9:25 a.m. Saturday.

Some passengers were being taken by ambulance to area hospitals. Others were being bandaged and comforted by firefighters at the scene.

The ferry runs across New York harbor between Manhattan and Staten Island.

In 2003, the ferry Andrew J. Barberi with about 1,500 people aboard slammed into a pier on the Staten Island side during evening rush hour, killing 11 passengers and injuring dozens.
