COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Jaromir Jagr set up three goals to help the Czech Republic cruise past France 6-2 in their opening game of the ice hockey world championships.

Jiri Novotny added a goal and two assists Sunday for the Czechs, who are looking for their first world title since 2005.

The Czechs went up 5-0 when Lukas Kaspar scored six minutes into the third period, before France pulled two goals back in two minutes through Yorick Treille and Laurent Meunier.

Jagr then set up Miroslav Blatak for a power-play goal with 33 seconds left for the final score.

Group C rival Sweden played Norway later Sunday.

In Group A, Belarus rallied from two goals down to beat Kazakhstan 5-2. Russia played Slovakia in the late game.
