Battle Ground police said they arrested a would-be burglar Monday morning after he allegedly was seen trying to enter two homes there.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, officers were called to a home in the 600 block of Southeast First Avenue, on a report that a homeowner had chased a man away from his patio door.

Officers rushed to the area and, five minutes later, Sgt. Joe Yeska saw a man trying to open a rear sliding door of a nearby home in the 300 block of Southeast Sixth Court, according to a bulletin from the Battle Ground Police Department.

Officers found Bryan B. McGee, 26, hiding near a truck and arrested him on suspicion of two counts of attempted burglary, the bulletin said.

In a search of McGee’s home at 514 N.E. First St., police detectives found a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and a Blu-ray player that had been stolen May 6 from a home in the 600 block of Southeast 11th Way, police said.

Also found, police said, was an iPod that had been stolen on March 26 from a home in the 800 block of Northwest 19th Court.

In that burglary, the property owner had arrived home, confronted the thief and fired a gunshot into the air as the intruder fled out a window, the bulletin said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sean Hendrickson at 360-342-5244.
