MONACO (AP) — Lamine Diack is running for another term as president of track and field’s world governing body.

The IAAF said Monday that the Senegalese official will stand for election next year to continue in a job he’s held since 1999.

Diack will be 78 when the election is held next year at Daegu, South Korea — venue for the 2011 world championships.

Diack said last year that he’d been asked by “many people” to continue leading the sport.

There was speculation he would step aside for younger candidates such as former Olympic champions Sergei Bubka of Ukraine and Sebastian Coe of Britain, who are both IAAF vice presidents.
