VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Five Vancouver, Wash., office workers helped guide a mother duck and 12 ducklings to safety Monday, herding them two blocks toward the Columbia River through downtown streets.

Taunya James and four of her coworkers were escorting the ducks when the unusual street parade was spotted by Clark County Animal Control Officer Trisha Kraff. She turned her van around and followed the group with lights flashing as they headed into The Columbian newspaper’s west parking lot.

Kraff then expertly captured the duck and ducklings and loaded them into her van. She said she’d release them in the river.

She says it’s the time of year for lots of calls about errant ducklings and baby geese.
