Ash: Good for the soil, not for the lungs

We had just put in all of our landscaping and laid a lot of beautiful sod yard at our brand new house. We could see Mount St. Helens erupt from the end of our street.

All of our beautiful new plants and grass were covered with ash. As it turned out, it was actually good for our clay soil. We found ash in our gutters for many years to come.

We thought our lives would never be the same, after we had to live with -- and try not to breathe in -- all of the ash for several days and weeks.
