MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee’s archbishop offered his concerns before Marquette University rescinded a job offer to a gender studies professor.
The archdiocese acknowledges Archbishop Jerome Listecki called Marquette President Father Robert Wild about the university’s offer to Seattle University professor Jodi O’Brien.
Last week, Marquette rescinded its offer to O’Brien, saying she was not a good fit with the university’s Catholic mission and identity. O’Brien, who’s openly gay, has written extensively on issues of gender and sexual orientation.
The Journal Sentinel reports the archdiocese’s judicial vicar, Father Paul Hartmann, also raised concerns about the hire in a letter to the search committee chairman.
