JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a 31-year-old man to 10 to 12 years in prison for a fatal crash with a motorcycle rider in Jackson last year.

The judge imposed the sentence against Nathaniel Hubbs Thursday after he plead guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide. Authorities say Hubbs was under the influence of painkillers on Aug. 8 when he was driving his SUV and collided with 55-year-old Martin Burbey, of Jefferson, Ore.

Hubbs apologized to Burbey’s family and says his life since the crash has been a nightmare. Burbey’s family asked 9th District Judge Nancy Guthrie for a long sentence.

Hubbs received 279 days credit for time served and could be released in as soon as six years with good behavior.
