NEW YORK (AP) — Funny Moon upset 3-5 favorite Seattle Smooth by 234 lengths Saturday in the $150,000 Shuvee Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
The 4-year-old covered one mile in 1:36.70 on the fast track, getting her fifth win in nine starts and ending Seattle Smooth’s five-race winning streak.
Funny Moon paid $7.70, $2.80 and $2.10 as the 5-2 second choice. Seattle Smooth returned $2.40 and $2.10. Milwaukee Appeal earned $2.20 to show.
Taking charge at the top of the lane, Funny Moon pulled away with Alan Garcia aboard for trainer Christophe Clement to earn her first win since the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont last July.
Seattle Smooth’s winning streak covered stakes races dating back to the Go For Wand at Delaware Park last August.
