EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Snohomish County may soon follow others in banning fireworks countywide.
County councilman Mike Cooper is proposing the ban in unincorporated parts of Snohomish County. It would join bans by other cities in the county and take effect in 2011.
The Herald of Everett reports that fireworks were responsible for more than $4 million in property damage last year. Within the county, the cities of Edmonds, Everett, Gold Bar, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, Mukilteo and Woodway already have fireworks bans.
Cooper intends on introducing the proposal at the County Council’s next meeting. He has the support of Snohomish County Fire District 1, which has been calling for a ban for a number of years.
