JOSEPH, Ore. (AP) — The City Council in the Eastern Oregon town of Joseph plans to revise its law enforcement contract with the Wallowa County Sheriff’s Office.
The original contract required the sheriff’s department to only enforce city ordinances directly related to public safety. The revised contract requires the sheriff to enforce all city ordinances — if a complaint is filed.
On regular patrols, the sheriff’s office would still only look to enforce ordinances directly tied to public safety.
The council intends to approve the revised contract at the June meeting,
The sheriff’s most recent monthly report to council chronicled 338 calls to Joseph in April.
