ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Washington Nationals have called up right-handed reliever Drew Storen, the 10th pick of the 2009 amateur draft.

The 22-year-old Storen beat Stephen Strasburg, the top selection in last year’s draft, to the major leagues. Right-hander Brian Bruney was designated for assignment.

Storen joined the Nationals in St. Louis after saving four games and compiling a 1.11 ERA for Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Syracuse, with 15 strikeouts in 16 2-3 innings. Strasburg is at Syracuse after beginning the season with Harrisburg.

Bruney was 1-2 with a 7.64 ERA in 19 games covering 17 2-3 innings.
