PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Democrats and Republicans in Oregon are about to choose their candidates for governor.

Voting has been under way for more than two weeks in the primary election, and the votes will be counted Tuesday night.

The likely outcome will pit former Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber against one of two Republicans, Chris Dudley or Allen Alley.

Polls show Kitzhaber running well in front of former Secretary of State Bill Bradbury.

But the polls are less clear in the Republican race.

Democrat Ted Kulongoski is leaving office after two terms.

Oregon law prohibits governors from serving more than two consecutive terms. But it allows a third term after a governor sits out for a time, as Kitzhaber has done.
