HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. (AP) — The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says two deputies shot a man who threatened them with a knife early Wednesday in the stairwell of an apartment building in Happy Valley.

Deputies found the man’s wife with multiple stab wounds in their apartment.

The sheriff’s office says both the 23-year-old man and 25-year-old woman underwent surgeries.

Deputies were called to the Monterey Springs Apartments shortly after midnight by a security guard who heard a woman screaming. Dispatchers also received a phone call from a woman who said her husband was attacking her with a knife.

The sheriff’s office says the man came out of the apartment with a knife, refused to obey the deputies and was shot when he moved toward them.
