WASHINGTON (AP) — Left-hander Jonathon Niese has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the New York Mets with a mild right hamstring strain.
The move, which was made retroactive to Monday, was announced before Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals. The Mets needed to clear a roster spot for right-hander R.A. Dickey, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Buffalo.
The 23-year-old Niese was 1-2 with a 4.79 ERA in eight starts.
Dickey started Wednesday’s game, making his Mets debut after being signed as a minor league free agent Jan. 5. The 35-year-old knuckleballer has a career 22-28 record and 5.43 ERA in 144 games for Texas, Seattle and Minnesota.
