PARIS (AP) — Rafael Nadal derives “personal satisfaction” from being ready to challenge for a fifth French Open title after being upset in the fourth round last year.
Speaking shortly after flying to France from his home in Spain on Thursday, Nadal says 2010 has been a “very, very good season for me,” which he considers important after being hampered by knee and abdominal injuries in 2009.
He says his knees “right now are in a very good moment,” and says that’s evident from the way he’s been playing. Nadal is 15-0 on clay, with titles at Masters events in Monte Carlo, Rome and Madrid.
He beat Roger Federer in the Madrid final. That’s a big reason why Nadal — not defending champion Federer — is viewed as the French Open favorite. Play begins Sunday.
