INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA is considering the possibility of combining the Division I men’s and women’s soccer championships into a single event in 2011.

Division I men’s soccer committee chair John Diffley on Friday confirmed the proposal, which was reported on the NCAA’s Web site this week.

Currently, the Division I men’s and women’s College Cup semifinals and finals are held at separate sites on different weekends. Combining the two events could create more fan interest, although wear and tear on fields could be a concern.
