Prep roundup: Softball keeps looking for dry days

3A, 2A, 1A district events remain in limbo due to rain

Skies remain heavy and wet, but the game go on … or at least try to go on.

The easiest of all is Heritage is scheduled to host Bothell at 2 p.m. today in the 4A bi-district playoff.

Heritage coach Angie Michaelis said as of Friday afternoon, her field was in good condition to play today.

Then it gets tricky.

The 3A tournament at Sprinker Rec Center in Tacoma will make the call at 10 a.m. today if the games will go forward.

Game times were pushed back an hour. Camas vs. Bonney Lake and Union vs. Peninsula are now at 1:45 p.m. and Prairie vs. Lakes is at 3:30 p.m.

The 2A tournament will try yet again to get any game played at Chehalis Recreation Park. Aberdeen and Washougal start at 10 a.m. and the winner will play at noon against W.F. West. Woodland takes on Centralia at noon as well.

La Center was able to finish its suspended game on Friday at the 1A tournament at Fort Borst Park in Centralia. La Center lost to Montesano 5-1.

La Center is scheduled to face Toledo at 3 p.m. today in a loser-out contest. The game will be pushed to Monday if it can’t be played today.

Track and field

Girls 3A bi-district — Columbia River’s Anna Adamko won two events on the first day of the two-day meet at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. She captured the discus with a mark of 126 feet, and the javelin at 138-7.

Adamko, a junior who is the defending state champion in the javelin, easily outdistanced her competitors in both events at the meet that determines berths to next week’s state competition.

Columbia River’s Allison Clark won the 3,200 meters, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of teammate and runner-up Sarah Bobbe.

Boys 3A bi-district — Jason Jones of Camas and Blake Bier of Prairie vaulted past the competition, recording pole vault marks of 14-6 in the meet at Mount Tahoma. Columbia River’s Kyle Boe won the 3,200 in 9:12.69, four seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Most of Friday’s competition at the meet, which determines berths to next week’s state meet, was preliminary running events. Union’s Kinsley Ojukwu recorded the best time in the 100 meters at 11.16.

Ojukwu barely advanced out of last week’s district meet after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Girls 1A district — La Center dominated the distance events and the pole vault en route to winning the district title.

In the 3,200, Amanda Blankenship and Meagan Governor finished 1-2; Tamara Kulla won the 800; and Governor was second in the 1,600, followed by Blankenship. In the pole vault, the Wildcats’ Natalia Harris, Hannah Trigg, Lauren Baker, and Yvonna Harris took the top four spots.

The top three finishers in each girls event advance to next week’s state meet.

La Center’s Katrina Chamberlain advanced in three events, finishing first in the high jump, second in the triple jump, and second in the shot put.

The Wildcats finished 153 points, easily outdistancing the 106 points of runner-up Kalama.

Stevenson finished ninth in the team race. Deara Canady was second in the discus and third in the shot put.

Boys 1A district — Kyle Kosak won the 800 meters in 2:01.68, helping La Center to a sixth-place finish in the 14-team meet.

Stevenson finished eighth in the team race, which was won by host Kalama. The Bulldogs’ Austin McCrum won the pole vault with a mark of 13 feet. La Center’s Zach Olivera was second at 12-0.

1B district — King’s Way Christian had a triple winner in Tayler Nein as she won the 200 meters, 100 hurdles and was on the 400 relay team with Danielle Kaopuiki, Kalie Burton and McKenna Christian.

Christian also won the long jump and Carina Hall won the high jump to earn trips to state.

Gabe Earl won the high jump on the boys side for King’s Way and anchored the winning 400 relay with Sean Russell, JR Ehline and Josh Russell.

Edrienne Chan of Seton Catholic won the 100 for a trip to state.

4A bi-district — Zach Hall of Heritage won the discus and Albert Chon of Skyview was third in the event as both advanced to next week’s state meet. Friday was the first of two days of competition in the meet at Southwest Athletic Complex in Seattle.

Three Mountain View athletes qualified for state: Grayson Anderson in the high jump; Dylan Parmeter in the long jump; and Alex Neshyba in the pole vault.

Girls tennis

2A district — Hockinson’s Mackenzie McWilliams clinched a third consecutive trip to the state tournament by reaching the semifinals at Mint Valley Tennis Club in Longview.

McWilliams dropped just one game in winning twice on Friday.

McWilliams will face Lauren Salberg of Mark Morris today. It is a rematch of last week’s sub-district final won by McWilliams 6-3, 6-2.

Correction

Courtney Bright of Washougal is the 21st entry to the 2A state girls golf tournament, and Hockinson’s Kelsey Whiles is the alternate. Their placing was incorrect in the 2A district tournament results reported in Thursday’s edition.
