KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have purchased the contract of switch-hitting infielder Wilson Betemit from their Triple-A affiliate in Omaha.

The move was announced Tuesday.

The 28-year-old Betemit hit .265 in 29 games with Omaha. He is a career .258 hitter with 42 home runs and 154 RBIs in 516 big league games with Atlanta, the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox. His best season came in 2005, when he hit .305 in 115 games with Atlanta.

The Royals optioned right-hander Bryan Bullington, who was 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA in three relief appearances, to Omaha. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Bullington first overall in the 2002 draft and the Royals are his fourth major league club.
