Weather Eye: Travel to Alaska for sunny, warm Memorial Day weather

Monday was kind of a ho-hum day with not much going on in the weather department. We were in between weather systems but today we will be “in one.” A deep trough of low pressure slides into Northern California with wraparound moisture streaming up our way for an increase in showers, especially overnight. Minor impulses will keep the chance of showers and thundershowers going most of the week. We will have some sun breaks in between, but unsettled weather will be the rule.

Looking ahead to the long Memorial Day weekend, things are a little cloudy at this point. So we will borrow a broad-brush from the art studio and paint the forecast as ‘partly cloudy with a chance of ….’ Maybe a shower or two or three, some clouds, some sun all thrown on the pallet. I sure wish it was a clear blue sky forecast, but that remains up in the air (pun, sorry).

Ironically, while basking Monday afternoon in mostly cloudy skies here in Clark County with temperatures running in the low 60s, Fairbanks was enjoying sunny skies and temperatures in the mid 70s and so was Dawson City in the Yukon! And to add insult to injury for us, their extended forecast calls for highs around 80 all the way through Memorial Day.

A little more on this matter, as of Monday both Vancouver USA and Fairbanks have had six days of 70 degree weather this month. The way things are going, they will have twice the 70 degree days by this time next week. And, they will reach 80 degrees long before we do. At this rate we may not even tally a 80 degree reading this month.

Hopefully all of this doesn’t foretell a ‘green tomato summer.’ Alaskan fishing trip anyone?
