COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) — A Coos County man has been sentenced to life in prison for strangling and sexually abusing his ex-wife’s sister.

The World newspaper reports that Patrick Lee Horath gave no explanation or apology at his sentencing Tuesday for the 2009 slaying of Jayme Austin.

He had pleaded guilty to murder and sex abuse.

Authorities say the victim had gone to her mother’s home to take a shower because her well was not working. But she never showed up for work. Her body was later found buried in a shallow grave.

Authorities say Horath will be eligible for parole after 30 years.
