Battle Ground folk musician Tom May had a surprise waiting for him when he returned from a gig at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub in Portland a couple weeks ago. May, 57, opened his electronic in-box and found an e-mail from a Korean company wanting to license one of his songs for a compilation CD called “Wine and Travel.”

Aulos Media was interested in including “Blue Roads, Red Wine,” the title track off May’s 2008 CD, on “Wine and Travel,” which will be released in June in South Korea. May said yes, but still doesn’t know quite how this all came about.

“It just came out of the blue,” he said. “I just thought, why look a gift horse in the mouth? It’s just one of those things that happens sometimes in this business when you least expect it.”

In addition to this unexpected development, May has a busy summer ahead of him. He was scheduled to leave May 28 for the Juan De Fuca Festival in Port Angeles, which continues through May 31. This is May’s 13th year participating in the music festival.

“It’s a great event,” he said.

May also will travel to Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico this summer to perform, and The Tom May Trio will play a July 4 concert at Tsillan Cellars Winery & Vineyards in Chelan.

“I try to keep busy,” May said.
