ZURICH (AP) — FIFA has lifted El Salvador’s soccer ban because its government is no longer interfering with the game.
The sport’s governing body had barred El Salvador from international play after the government refused to recognize the authorities running soccer in the Central American country. FIFA had threatened to extend the ban another year.
But FIFA said Thursday the country has complied with its requests and the Salvadorian parliament has amended its laws. FIFA says the new soccer authority has been recognized by the government.
