DETROIT (AP) — Tigers manager Jim Leyland says Carlos Guillen is his everyday second baseman, a position he hadn’t played since 1999.

Guillen was reinstated from the disabled list on Friday and put in the lineup against the Oakland Athletics.

Detroit optioned infielder Danny Worth to Triple-A Toledo to make room on the roster.

Guillen had been out since April 23 with a strained left hamstring. He hit .311 with eight RBIs in his first 16 games for the Tigers this year. His last game at second base was 11 years ago with the Seattle Mariners after playing there 10 times for them in 1998 as a rookie.

Leyland says Worth made a favorable impression. He had an RBI single in his major league debut on May 16 and hit .333 in eight games.
