NEW YORK (AP) — All-Star outfielder Curtis Granderson is back in the New York Yankees’ lineup, and veteran Randy Winn is looking for a new team.
The Yankees activated Granderson from the 15-day disabled list Friday and put him in the lineup for the opener of a four-game series against the Cleveland Indians. Granderson was in center and batting second.
Granderson strained his left groin running the bases during a 7-6 loss to the Chicago White Sox on May 1. He hit .250 in five rehab games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Winn was designated for assignment to make room for Granderson. The outfielder hit .213 in 29 games with New York after signing a 1-year deal over the winter.
Winn says he hasn’t played well and wasn’t surprised by the move.
