EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State coach Tom Izzo has suspended guard Korie Lucious for next week’s regular season opener as well as one exhibition game.

Lucious pleaded guilty in September to misdemeanor reckless driving. He’ll miss Tuesday night’s preseason game against Saginaw Valley State and next week’s regular season opener when the second-ranked Spartans host Eastern Michigan.

Lucious averaged 5.6 points last season. He made a game-winning 3-pointer to lift the Spartans into the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. They ended up advancing to the Final Four.

He’s coming off arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, but he’s expected to play in the team’s second preseason game next Monday against Nebraska-Omaha.
