KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — A Benton County Superior Court judge in Kennewick has sentenced a woman to life in prison for killing a pregnant woman and cutting the baby from her womb.

The Tri-City Herald reports that Judge Robert Swishes imposed the sentence Wednesday on 25-year-old Phienchai Sisouvanh Synhavong (PEE’-en-chay SIS’-oo-vahn SIN’-ha-vahng).

Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller had previously declined to seek the death penalty in the case, so life in prison was the only option for the aggravated first-degree murder conviction.

A jury convicted Sisouvanh Synhavong last month in the June 2008 death of Araceli Camacho Gomez, whose body was found in a city park. The baby survived and is now living with his father.
