LONDON (AP) — London has withdrawn its bid to host the 2015 world athletics championships because of uncertainty over the future of the 2012 Olympics Stadium, leaving Beijing as the sole candidate.

The IAAF is expected to announce the host Nov. 20.

Beijing would hold the event at the Bird’s Nest, the main stadium for the 2008 Olympics.

Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson says London could instead bid for the 2017 championships, adding he “would be very disappointed if that were not the case.”

American sports company AEG has said it has no plans to retain the running track if it wins its joint bid for the Olympics Stadium with Premier League club Tottenham. West Ham, which is also bidding for the facility, intends to keep the track.
