SEATTLE (AP) — Russell Investments has formally opened its new headquarters in downtown Seattle.

City officials welcomed the global financial services company — and the hundreds of jobs it brings — at a ceremony Wednesday.

Russell, which is widely known for its stock indexes, was founded 74 years ago in Tacoma. It decided to move to the former Washington Mutual building last year. About 900 workers have been relocated to Seattle.

Russell has said the 42-story building was a good deal after the 2008 collapse of WaMu and because of the depressed real estate market.

The company has about 1,750 employees worldwide. It is owned by Milwaukee-based Northwestern Mutual.
