Prep roundup: Ridgefield volleyball reaches 1A state

Spudders win twice, reach district finals

The Ridgefield volleyball team made quick work of two opponents on Wednesday to lock up a spot in the Class 1A state tournament.

The Spudders beat Hoquiam and tournament host Montesano, both in three sets, to advance to the Class 1A District 4 championship match. Castle Rock will host Ridgefield for the district championship match at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

“They played amazing tonight,” Ridgefield coach Sabrina Dobbs said of her squad. “They played with intensity and with focus on the prize (of qualifying for state).:

The Spudders opened with a 25-11, 25-23, 15-19 victory over Hoquiam. They then defeated Evergreen Conference champion Montesano 25-11, 25-19 and 25-20 to nail down the state berth.

Korrie Stephenson led the Ridgefield attack with 10 kills in each match. Shannon Boyle had 17 kills and four blocks over the two matches. Lauren Ramey led the team with 11 digs in each match.

Stevenson eliminated —&#160;Stevenson volleyball had its season end on Wednesday with losses to Montesano and Hoquiam at the district tournament.

1B district volleyball

King’s Way Christian 3, Mary M. Knight 0 &#8212; Erin Sprowls had 10 kills, and the host Knights rolled into the Class B district semifinals with the 25-8, 25-8, 25-4 win. King’s Way, which hasn’t lost since Sept. 28, needs one more win to qualify for state.

King’s Way will host Three Rivers Christian of Kelso at noon Saturday in the district semifinals. The other semifinal match at King’s Way pits Seton Catholic against Taholah at 2 p.m.

The semifinal losers will play at 5 p.m. Saturday for the final state berth from District 4. The semifinal winners will play for the district title at 7 p.m.

Sophie Kuehl had five aces and 14 digs,and Tiffany Hansen had five aces, 10 assists, and eight digs on Wednesday.

Seton Catholic 3, Wishkah Valley 0 &#8212; Cheyenne Cunning had nine kills and no attack errors on 11 attempts to go with five aces, two digs and a block as Seton Catholic routed Wishkah Valley 25-4, 25-5, 25-6.

Brynn Letang had 15 aces and nine assists for the Cougars, and Edrienne Chan added 10 assists and nine aces.

“We pretty much served them off the court,” said Seton Catholic coach Kelly Adams. “My girls came out fired up. We only missed three serves all match, so that was good.”

Seton Catholic next faces the winner Taholah in the district semifinals. That match will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday at King’s Way.
