The fifth annual Camas Indoor Kite Festival takes place this weekend and will benefit an area high school robotics team.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Camas High School gymnasium, 26900 S.E. 15th St. Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family. Admission includes the opportunity to make a kite.

Regional, national and international champion indoor kite-fliers will participate in the event. The results from the four competitions on Saturday and Sunday will count toward a regional championship. Activities include ballet competition, demonstration flying, kite making and the opportunity to fly the indoor kites.

The Camas and Washougal high schools’ FIRST Robotics team will provide concessions at the event. The proceeds will support the team’s activities and competitions.

The kites used in the event are so light that small arm and body movements by the flier are enough to lift the kites into the air.
